ASA Provincial Training Program
Alberta Soccer Select Team Program’s philosophy is to provide player development and player identification opportunities. Additionally, the teams provide an arena for players to showcase their ability at the next level.

U 13 Boys & Girls
Alberta Soccer operates a North and South team at this age group. The premise of operating two teams at a total of 40 boys and 40 girls is to provide an opportunity to travel and compete. U13 is a developmental year in preparation for U14.
From July 4-11, 2010 (inclusive), the teams will travel to Missoula, Montana for a training camp and series of games.
“This experience was great for me and many others. It helped me learn many new things: how to be independent, how to get along with many other people, and developed myself as a player. I think that our team played very well together with great teamwork. Practices taught us a lot, and games made us put everything into play with pressure against us. I think we are now better players than when we arrived here. I will definitely take this experience with me back to my club team and lead them to become better as a team and individually. Thanks to all the coaches and others who helped make this possible.”
“Thank you for the chance to experience this trip. It taught me responsibility and gave me a chance to see what some soccer would be like in a different part of the world. But most of all, I enjoyed myself: having a roommate, going to meals, practicing and playing soccer, and all kinds of challenges. Another thing that improved the trips were the coaches. They set all this up for us and took their time to go here with us. Another thing were the games. Some were soft and some were challenging. The U15 game taught me that even if you’re losing 4 or 5 – 0, you can still get back in the game, like how we came back. Also, it taught me that size doesn’t matter, like how their goalie was 6’5” and two feet bigger than me, but size doesn’t matter, technique does. There were so many more things, but I can’t say them all. Thank you coaches.”
U14 Boys & Girls
The U14 age group is considered the first step into the National Team Program.
Players compete at the National-All-Star competition in front of a number of national team scouts. Players identified at this age enter into the NTCP (National Training Centre-Prairies).
Alberta Soccer philosophy at this age is to allow for the greatest player development and player identification possible. After the final provincial trials, both the boys and the girls will be in a training camp in St. Albert (July 4-9 inclusive). Another camp is scheduled for July 16-18 prior to departure for the National All-Stars competition, July 19-26, 2010 (inclusive). The boys will compete in Quebec, and the girls will compete in Newfoundland.
U 15 Boys & Girls
The 2010 U15 Boys and Girls are presently considered Alberta’s next Canada Summer Games team.
In 2010, the teams will hold a training camp in Winnipeg, Manitoba, July 5-11 (inclusive). At the same time, the teams will compete in the Prairie Invitational Tournament open only to provincial select teams where they will have the opportunity to be scouted by the National Team.
U16 Boys & Girls
The U16 age group is considered the second step into the National Team Program and is an opportunity for players to be identified for the U17 National Team Program. National scouts will be in attendance evaluating the potential of these players as they mature into National Team Player prospective ages.
The teams will be in a training camp in St. Albert from July 4-9 (inclusive) and July 16-18 (inclusive) after which time they will depart for the National All-Stars competitions from July 19-26, 2010 (inclusive). The boys will compete in Quebec, and the girls will compete in Newfoundland.
Given that Alberta Soccer has the fewest contact days with their respective Provincial Teams of any province, it is the policy of Alberta Soccer not to release players for club commitments during either training or competition dates.
The Alberta Soccer Association will be conducting our Provincial Training Program (PTP) this winter. The PTP offers all identified players an opportunity for winter development for the following Provincial Select Teams in spring 2010. Please check back for all information regarding the 2010 program including dates, schedules and locations.
