ALBERTA SOCCER ASSOCIATION
TOURNAMENT RULES AND GUIDELINES FOR HOSTING INVITATIONAL OUTDOOR TOURNAMENTS IN ALBERTA
1. GENERAL
(A) All invitational Tournaments conducted in Alberta must be sanctioned. Tournaments involving only teams of the same local district must be sanctioned by that A.S.A. member District. Any tournament involving teams from outside the local District must be sanctioned by the Alberta Soccer Association.
(B) If two or more Leagues/Clubs/Districts from the same geographic area request sanctioning of a tournament where the dates and age groups/genders requested are the same, the A.S.A. will sanction only one tournament, with preference being given to whichever tournament has historically been conducted on that weekend for the longest number of years.
2. TEAM/PLAYER ELIGIBILITY:
(A) All participating teams and players must be members of affiliated soccer within their respective Districts/Provinces/States/Countries;
(B) All teams/players must be in good standing with their respective District/Provincial/State/National Soccer Associations;
(C) All Alberta teams from outside the District that is hosting the tournament must have permission from their home Districts;
(D) All teams outside Alberta must have written participation permission from their respective Provincial/State/National/Soccer Associations;
(E) Where an Alberta Team desires to participate in a sanctioned tournament that allows the use of "guest" players, that team who wishes to add players to its tournament roster who are not part of its regular roster, must acquire written permission from the team from whence the guest player (s) will be drawn. In the case of players from outside the District of domicile of the team who wishes to use them for tournament participation, then written permission must also be obtained from the District in which the "guest" player is registered.
3. HOSTING GUIDELINES
APPLICABLE TO ALL TOURNAMENTS:
- Properly groomed, lined, netted and corner-flagged fields, as per sizes below;
- Benches for each team; Technical area lined/marked;
- Results board;
- Tournament Meeting room/area;
- Provide a minimum of one (1) distinguishable local Field Marshal for every two fields throughout the event;
- Washrooms accessible on site;
- Water accessible to players;
- On-site telephone for emergency calls;
- Emergency plan circulated and/or posted (ie. location of first aid area, nearest hospital/medi-centre, contact numbers, etc.);
- Schedule three A.S.A. registered & qualified referees per game;
- Adequate accommodation available;
APPLICABLE TO SENIOR TOURNAMENTS AND YOUTH TIER I TOURNAMENTS:
- Fields that are at least 105 yards long by 65 yards wide (96m x 60m);
- Adequate crowd control measures, preferably including a roped-off area separating players benches from spectators;
APPLICABLE TO ALL OTHER YOUTH TOURNAMENTS:
- Fields that are at least 100 yards long by 50 yards wide (90m x 45m);
DESIRABLES:
- Information packages for participating teams;
- Sheltered change rooms, preferably with showers;
- On-site concession;
- On-site first-aid (St. John Ambulance or equivalent)
- A social event for participants;
- Assist participants in finding suitable accommodation.
