The Mike Traficante Challenge Cup is the championship given to the Top Men’s Provincial Champion which advances to the National Championships to vie for the Challenge Trophy.

Mike Traficante has been a very influential and dedicated member of Alberta Soccer for the better part of 30 years.  Mike Traficante received recognition as coaching the Ital-Canadians soccer club in Edmonton for over 20 years, leading them to national titles in 1994 & 1997.  From 1984 to 1997, he was the colorful character behind the Ital bench, some would say a "model" coach and talent scout, also claiming a silver medal in 1989, four bronze medals (1984-86 and 1993) and 4th place in 1989, in eight appearances at the Canadian Nationals.  Mike has served on the EDSA board for over 15 years and served as their President in 2001.  Mike was a main participant in the addition of indoor soccer facilities in Edmonton, as well the resurgence of the Alberta Major Soccer League in 1992.  Mike Traficante also served on the ASA board for over 15 years and served as President Elect in 2003-2005, and Past President from 2006-2008.  Mike Traficante has also been on the Technical Committee of the Canadian Soccer Association since 2005 and served as Technical Chair, 2004-2008.

Upon completing his service to the ASA at the 2009 Annual General Meeting, the ASA board honoured Mike Traficante, with awarding him a life-membership.  In addition to this prestige, the ASA board approved the naming of the current Challenge Cup to the Mike Traficante Challenge Cup.
