(January 28, 2019) Alberta Soccer welcomes new Manager of Coach Education, Matt Thomas.

With the current changes occurring in Alberta Soccer’s technical department, the Association has an opportunity to restructure in a way that aligns with the future of Coach Education and Club Licensing across the country.

In support of this focus, Alberta Soccer is pleased to welcome Matt Thomas as the new Manager of Coach Education.

Alberta Soccer is able to bring Matt on following the departure of Vikram Kaushal, Alberta Soccer’s Technical Operations Coordinator. At the end of the week, Vik will transition into a full-time coaching position with FC Edmonton. He has been an important part of the Association, and we wish him all the best in his new role.

“We are delighted to appoint Matt Thomas to the Manager of Coach Education position. He is a quality addition to our Technical team and his enthusiasm, positive outlook, and capacity to inspire and support coaches as they travel along the Coach Education Pathway will be greatly beneficial to the soccer community in Alberta,” said Shaun Lowther, Alberta Soccer Executive Director. “The value of Coach Education can not be overstated – it is vital to the growth of soccer at all levels of play in Alberta.”

Matt brings extensive experience within the game and an excellent knowledge of the soccer landscape in Canada. He has previously worked with professional clubs in Europe and since landing in Canada, has worked for the British Columbia, Manitoba, and Alberta Provincial Associations. Matt is a Canada Soccer Master Coach Developer, has his UEFA A, USSF A and is currently completing his Canada Soccer A License. He also has his Director of Coaching and National Youth Licence from the US Soccer Federation.

With the many changes and developments happening across the national soccer community in 2019, the addition of Matt Thomas and Franc Cioffi to Alberta Soccer will be invaluable.

Matt Thomas will begin his role on March 1, 2019.
