AB_sportconnection_CLRApril 6, 2017 – Alberta Sport Connection (ASC) announced its 2016 Athlete & Team of the Year and 2017 Alberta Sport Recognition Awards yesterday, and Alberta Soccer is proud to see members of the soccer community being recognized.

Andrew Ference, ASC’s Chair, praised the recipients for their “outstanding contribution to sport in our province,” going on to acknowledge that “they have reached higher, dug deeper, led by example, and made our sport system better.”

The Calgary Foothills 02 Girls were awarded the 2016 Junior Team of the Year Award – recognized for their “outstanding performance…and accomplishments” last year. The team earned silver in the Gothia Cup in Sweden before claiming the 1st place position in the Calgary Minor Soccer Association’s 2016 Outdoor Season, at the Alberta Soccer Provincial Championships, and finally at the National Championships, where they won the U14 Cup and National Championship Title.

Also named as one of the best by ASC is Alberta Soccer’s very own Manager of Coach Education, Jim Loughlin. Jim received the prestigious, Don Watts Coach Developer Award, for his “tremendous impact” in developing Alberta coaches. His contributions as a National Coach Certification Program (NCCP) Multi-sport and Sport Learning Facilitator and Evaluator have proven invaluable to the soccer community, and to Alberta as a whole.
