Mini Course

  •  Length of course – 6 hours. Can be held on weekends or multiple evenings.
  • Cost of course – $25 per student. Invoiced to the District.
  • Facilities required – classroom or meeting room and gymnasium or field. Field or gym time is 1.75 hours,
    Minimum numbers – 10 students in the following centres – Edmonton and surrounding, Calgary and surrounding,
    Lethbridge, Red Deer.
    6 students in all other centres.
  • Maximum numbers – 35 students, but also based on your facility restrictions.
  • Time frames – mostly held in mid-March to mid-May, but can be held at other times.
  • Note – as of 2017, the host must provide a person to administer check-in and registration of students at the start of the course. This is to prevent unregistered ‘walk-ins’, which have occured in the past.

Entry Level Referee Course

  • Can be held on weekends, multiple weekends or multiple evenings. The course has 4 main components.
    • Online modules in Refcentre, released to students when they are approved.
    • Online Laws of the Game webinar, released to students once they have completed online modules.
    • Online Laws of the Game exam, released to students once they have attended the webinar.
    • 3 hour practical onfield training session –
  • Cost of course – starting in 2021 there are two payment models that hosts can choose from:
    • Student pays Alberta Soccer directly – $100 per student* (all ages). The district is not invoiced, but is responsible for all facility fees etc. Students will be automatically approved on payment.
    • Student pays Course Host (existing model). Alberta Soccer will invoice the district $100 per student* (all ages). Students will be manually approved by the course host. The host is responsible for all facility fees etc., and may set their own price for the course based on this.
    • * The $100 cost is for 2021 only, based on our reduced registration fee at 50% of the usual rate.
  • Facilities required – For the onfield practical session, the host will need to provide a suitable indoor facility for practical training (indoor field, fieldhouse, gym etc.) The facility must be booked for 3 hours. Indoor is needed so that the practical session can go ahead, regardless of the weather conditions outside. Practical sessions can be requested for weekends (morning or afternoon) or weeknights, based on your preference and facility availability etc.  This is the only facility booking required for Entry Level Courses.
  • Minimum numbers – 10 students in the following centres – Edmonton and surrounding, Calgary and surrounding, Lethbridge, Red Deer.
    6 students in all other centres.
  • Maximum numbers – 25 students maximum for all components.
  • Time frames – mostly held in mid-March to mid-May, but can be held at other times.

Refresher Courses (Outdoor and Indoor)

Note – for the 2021 Outdoor season, Alberta Soccer is hosting all refreshers as Zoom meetings. Districts and clubs do not need to request Outdoor Refreshers.

  • Length of course – 3 hours. Can be held on evenings or weekends
  • Cost of course – $100 + GST – flat rate per course. Invoiced to the District.
  • Facilities required – classroom or meeting room. Field sessions can be arranged by special request.
  • Minimum numbers – 10 students in the following centres – Edmonton and surrounding, Calgary and surrounding, Lethbridge, Red Deer.
    6 students in all other centres.
  • Maximum numbers – 50 students, but also based on your facility restrictions.
  • Time frames – mostly held in mid-March to mid-May for outdoor, mid-September to mid-November for indoor, but can be held at other times.

Conversion Courses (Boarded Soccer & Futsal)

  • Length of course – 6 hours
  • Cost of course – $150 + GST – flat rate per course, invoiced to the district
  • Facilities required – classroom or meeting room and gymnasium or field. Preferred gymnasium or field time is 1 hour
  • Minimum numbers – 10 students in the following centres – Edmonton and surrounding, Calgary and surrounding, Lethbridge, Red Deer.
    6 students in all other centres.
  • Maximum numbers – 35 students, but also based on your facility restrictions.
  • Time frames – mostly held mid-September to mid-November, but can be held at other times.
